CHNEP calendars
We live in a beautiful place in the world, and many of you have captured this beauty in your artwork as is evidenced by the calendars produced by Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program.
By July 14, 2008, Consider submitting up to three images for the 2009 calendar! Be sure to include a signed entry form.
PDF files of the 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 calendars are available
2008 calendar is now available: Thank you to the 81 people who submitted 221 images to be considered for the CHNEP 2008 calendar. The 2008 calendar was mailed the first week in November to every person who subscribed to the free program newsletter Harbor Happenings by September 30, 2007. While it is too late to receive a copy in the mail, subscribe now using the online order form to be sure you receive the 2009 calendar! Several locations throughout the CHNEP study area have a small supply of the calendar available for you to pick up. CHNEP is not mailing calendars after the initial distribution.
Please note that the date for Thanksgiving is wrong. It isn’t November 20, 2008 as listed in the calendar but instead is November 27.
Donations are appreciated. Many people have asked how they can buy the calendar. For the 2008 calendar, CHNEP is asking for donations to help defray production expenses. Any donations received above the cost of producing the calendar will help with other outreach projects through our wide network of partnerships. If you'd like to help, please send a check made payable to CHNEP Calendars to 1926 Victoria Ave, Fort Myers FL 33901. The fiscal agent for the CHNEP is the Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council, a 170(c)1. Donations made to SWFRPC are tax deductible as they are exclusively for a public purpose.
Please tell us what you think of the calendar.
Your comments well help CHNEP decide whether or not to continue producing these calendars.
Entries being accepted for the 2009 calendar. We hope you will consider being a part of the 2009 calendar by submitting your entries!
You can have your artwork published! Have you captured an image of the beauty found within portions of the seven counties of Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Lee, Manatee, Polk and Sarasota that participate in CHNEP with your camera or your paintbrush? The image could have been captured today or 50 years ago in any medium (photography, oil, illustration, etc.). Whether you are young or old, professional or amateur you may submit up to three (3) digitized entries for consideration by the people within the region for inclusion in a 2009 calendar. (The budget to print the 2008 calendar will not be approved until May 2008. Because of the acceptance of these calendars, it is hoped that the budget will be available to produce a 2009 calendar.)
Please let others know who you think may be interested in participating. (This information will soon be available as a one-page PDF file.)
1) Submit your entries by July 14, 2008. There is no entry fee and the only "rules" to be considered are:
The image captured must be within the watershed of concern to the Charlotte Harbor NEP, which includes all or part of Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Lee, Manatee, Polk and Sarasota counties. Maps of the programs watershed are available.
Each person may submit up to three images by July 14, 2008. Send your entries (on a CD) and completed release forms by mail to CHNEP, ATTN: Maran Hilgendorf, 1926 Victoria Ave, Fort Myers FL 33901-3414.
Images must be received as digital files. If you want help in digitizing your image, contact The Set-Up in Cape Coral (239/542-4142 or info@thesetup.com) or a local commercial printer. Scanning costs are estimated to be $50 an image.
The resolution of the images you submit will determine which of two surveys the image will be in. Those with resolutions high enough to print as an 12 x 9 inch image at 300 dpi will be considered for the 12 x 9 inch feature pages. Images that conform to a 4 x 3 ratio (12 x 9) are preferred as they conform to the anticipated print size of the calendar. Those with resolutions lower than this will be considered as smaller images to appear within the dates of the calendar. (Additional information or "hints" on resolutions is provided below.)
Each entry must be accompanied by an entry form that serves as a release for CHNEP to use the entries in items such as the 2009 calendar, the newsletter Harbor Happenings or on the program website. If images include people who are recognizable, a signed model release form is required of each person. Images will only be posted for selection if a release form is received.
2) Select the images you'd like to see in the 2009 calendar: Images submitted by July 14 will be posted during the month of August 2008 on the CHNEP website with the people of the region selecting images for a 2009 calendar that they believe best depict the beauty of the estuaries and watersheds in the CHNEP study area. A link to the survey will be posted on this page.
Charlotte Harbor NEP staff will have the final decision on entries posted and printed and will not display images that are obscene, provocative or whose content is otherwise questionable or whose quality does not conform to the standards as specified here. CHNEP retains sole discretion as to what constitutes inappropriate content.
3) The calendar is anticipated to be sent free to every person who receives the program newsletter Harbor Happenings as of September 30, 2008. (You may submit a subscription by completing the form found on the website.) Subscribe now using the online order form. Please note that the printers have very generous in printing the prior calendars so additional copies were available. This generosity is not guaranteed for the 2009 calendar and only those who submit images or who subscribe to the newsletter may receive the calendar!
