Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program

Environmental Education Workshop

Thursday, April 12, 2012

Learn more about the Friday, December 2, 2011 program.

The Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program (CHNEP) is a partnership working to protect the natural environment from Venice to Bonita Springs to Winter Haven. The CHNEP invites you to an environmental education program on Thursday, April 12, 2012. We would like everyone with an interest in environmental education in southwest Florida to attend. The free program will be held at the Polk Nature Center at Circle B Bar (4399 Winter Lake Rd/SR 540, 863/534-7377).

The CHNEP is a committee-driven organization to implement a 20-year plan, known as the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP), to protect estuaries and their watersheds. The CHNEP area of focus includes Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee, Lee, Manatee, Polk and Sarasota counties. The December 2 program is an opportunity to further environmental education in the CHNEP study area.

Please register before Monday, April 2 by completing this online form (www.CHNEP.org/ee.asp). The online registration form asks several questions that will help the CHNEP make the best use of the day and to help plan future trainings.

Those who registered for the Dec. 2 program indicated their interest in professional development training offered by NOAA Coastal Services Center. Of those who responded:

·        39 wanted their Conducting Needs Assessment course

·        35 wanted their Negotiating for Coastal Resources course

·        41 wanted their Planning for Meaningful Evaluation course

·        42 wanted their Project Design and Evaluation course

·        43 wanted their Public Issues and Conflict Management course

This two-day instructor-led course is designed to increase participants’ ability to design, conduct, and control public or targeted meetings. Participants will learn techniques to reduce conflict, enhance cooperation, and achieve meeting objectives in a timely manner. They will also learn how to use and practice facilitation skills to enhance communication between diverse groups with multiple perspectives. After completing this course, participants will be able to (1) Design and conduct collaborative processes for reaching consensus on public issues and (2) Understand how to deal effectively with the media in the public issues management process

We're fortunate in that Ann Weaver from NOAA CSC is willing to offer the two-day Public Issues and Conflict Management course this fall! Would you send me your thoughts on when (sometime between August and December 2012) and if you have a location you'd like to suggest? Once I have your thoughts, I may ask everyone to narrow down the dates by completing a Doodle survey.

Once you've completed all the necessary fields, hit "submit" below. PLEASE only hit "submit" once. It may take a few seconds for you to see that any action has been taken.

Thanks.
