CHNEP calendars
We live in a beautiful place in the world, and many of you have captured this beauty in your artwork as evidenced by the calendars produced by Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program (CHNEP) since 2005. The CHNEP is a partnership program working to protect the natural environment of Florida from Venice to Bonita Springs to Winter Haven. Thank you to those who have generously given of their time and talent to help create the CHNEP calendars that depict the beauty and diversity of the natural environment of southwest Florida.
We hope you will consider being a part of the CHNEP's 2014 calendar. A flier is available to encourage people to participate in the development of the 2014 calendar.

Guidance for the CHNEP 2014 calendar
- Step 1: By July 15, submit images.
Have you captured an image of the beauty of the native, natural environment? The image could have been captured today or 50 years ago in any medium (photography, oil, illustration, etc.) within the CHNEP study area of Charlotte, DeSoto, Hardee and Lee counties and portions of Highlands, Manatee, Polk and Sarasota counties. Whether you are young or old, professional or amateur, you may submit up to three (3) digitized entries for consideration by the people within the region for inclusion in the CHNEP 2014 calendar.
To enter, complete the release form and submit your images by 5 p.m., July 15, 2013. There is no fee to enter images.
There are two ways to submit a release form: (1) Complete the online form at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/CHNEP2014calendar (If the link doesn't work, please open a new browser and copy and paste the address.) If you can, please complete this online form. The online release form does not allow you to transmit images. (2) Mail a completed printed form, which is available in the 2013 calendar, Harbor Happenings, on the website. This release form allows the CHNEP to use the entries in the calendar and other materials.
There are two ways to submit your images: (1) Email your images to mhilgendorf@swfrpc.org. (2) Burn your images to a CD and mail it to: CHNEP Calendar Art Contest, 1926 Victoria Avenue, Fort Myers, FL 33901-3414. Please write your name and “2014” on the face of the CD.
You will receive an email message once a form and images are received. Please do not consider them received until you receive this confirmation. Images will only be posted for selection if a completed release form is received and if the images are submitted as digital files. A signed model release form must also be provided for each recognizable person in the image(s).
- Step 2: In August, select image you would like included in the calendar. More guidance will be posted by August.
Images received by July 15, 2013, will be posted on the Internet as early as possible in August 2013. During the month of August, the public will select images they believe best depict the beauty of the estuaries and watersheds in the CHNEP study area. CHNEP staff will have the final decision on entries posted and printed and will not display images that are obscene, provocative, whose content is otherwise questionable, whose quality does not conform to the standards as specified here or whose resolution is too low for printing. The CHNEP retains sole discretion as to what constitutes inappropriate content.
-
Step 3: By Sept. 13, if you don't already receive the CHNEP magazine Harbor Happenings, subscribe to receive the 2014 calendar in the mail. The calendars will be mailed by November. If you already receive the magazine or are submitting images, there is no need to do anything more.
-
Please tell us what you think of the CHNEP calendars by making a short online survey.

Would you like to sponsor the 2014 calendar? Sponsor opportunities begin at $100.
-
Do you want to be sure you receive Harbor Happenings and future calendars?
-
Would you like to receive a supply of Harbor Happenings and the CHNEP calendars for distribution to those who will help protect the natural environment of southwest Florida? Send an email message to mhilgendorf@swfrpc.org with "request" in the subject line. (Soon we will have an online request form available that will make it easier to subscribe.)

The calendar was mailed to everyone who was a subscriber to Harbor Happenings at the time it was mailed. While supplies last, the calendar is also available for pickup at locations throughout the seven counties that participate in the CHNEP.
Many people have asked how they can buy the calendar. With the 2008 calendar, the CHNEP began asking for donations to help defray production expenses. Any donations received above the cost of producing the calendar will help with other outreach projects through our wide network of partnerships.
We would like to publicly acknowledge your donation. After your donation is received, you will asked if it is okay to include your name or if you prefer to remain anonymous. All donations of $100 or more will be acknowledged in the next calendar published. (You may wish to be considered a sponsor instead.) All donations will be acknowledged on the Friends of Charlotte Harbor Estuary, Inc.'s website at www.CHNEPfriends.org. Donations made prior to this will be posted once each donor gives us permission to list their name.
With the 2011 calendar, the Friends of Charlotte Harbor Estuary, Inc. began accepting donations. The CHNEP is pleased to join the many organizations that enjoy the assistance of a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Donations received help defray calendar production expenses and finance our many other education and outreach programs. To learn more or to make a donation by credit card or PayPal, visit their website at www.CHNEPfriends.org. If you’d like to donate by check, please make it payable to The Friends of Charlotte Harbor Estuary, Inc., add "CHNEP calendar" in the memo line and mail to:
Friends of Charlotte Harbor Estuary, Inc. PO Box 2245 Fort Myers, FL 33902-2245.
Thank you.
Over the years it has been suggested that we accept sponsorships to offset printing and distribution costs of the calendar. We began offering this opportunity with the 2012 calendar. Both Mosaic and CF Industries sponsored the 2012 and 2013 calendar by providing $2,500. Each company provided a 27” ad that both acknowledged the beauty of the natural environment and helped implement the CCMP.
For the 2014 calendar, the sponsorship opportunities will again be available to partners (citizens, organizations, non-profits, governmental entities, corporations, etc.) that highlight or support the beauty of the natural environment and implement the CHNEP Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP), our 20-year plan to protect the natural environment. The sponsor possibilities are in 1” increments ($100/inch) ranging from 1”x1” for $100 up to 12” wide x 9” high for $10,800.
Let us know if you might be interested in supporting the CHNEP 2014 calendar. For more details, contact Maran Hilgendorf (866/835-5785 ext 240, mhilgendorf@swfrpc.org). Thank you.
