Next Steering Committee Meeting: to be determined

November 27, 2001: The Steering Committee met October 16, 2001 from 2:30 to 5:00. Agreement was reached on several issues and a note was distributed via email with additional updates once more commitments were made. The location is still being determined but will likely by IMPAC University in Punta Gorda. (See below for more details.)

July 23, 2001: The Charlotte Harbor Watershed Summit will be held February 7-9, 2002. Initially the Summit was to be held October 18-20, 2001 but too many conflicts were identified. The location is still the Best Western in Punta Gorda. The Program Office is in the process of alerting all those who submitted abstracts of this change. Abstracts will now continue to be accepted until October 5, 2001. Promotion of the Summit will begin immediately with the detailed brochure to be distributed in early January, after the holidays. Sponsors are continuing to be solicited and will be listed in all the promotion and printed materials as soon as individual sponsorship is confirmed. (A form letter is available for those who might be interested in becoming a sponsor.)

Call for Abstracts for Presentations: Abstracts were accepted until Friday, October 5, 2001

Call for Abstracts for Posters: Abstracts will continue to be accepted until space is no longer available (Use the abstract form below to submit the poster abstract.)

The Program Office is no longer accepting abstracts for presentations and posters to be presented during the technical symposium and/or the public conference. A committee will review each abstract, group into topics, and may then invite those submitting abstracts to either make a presentation, prepare posters or participate in a panel discussion. Abstracts received may be assembled and distributed at the symposium and conference. Abstract Form

CHNEP Goals, Priority Problems, and Watershed

It has been almost four years since the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program held its first public conference and technical symposium on Charlotte Harbor. Since that time, the Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP) has been completed, many studies and projects have been undertaken as a result of our efforts, and growth continues to change the face of our watershed. It is time to review the progress made under the guidance of the CCMP and to discuss the current and emerging issues affecting our watershed and Charlotte Harbor.

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee has divided into three working groups to attend to the details of overall planning and logistics of the summit, the technical symposium, and public conference. Most meetings have been held from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Margaret Way Building (23 N. Polk) in Arcadia.

Thank you for your interest in participating in the second public conference and technical symposium.
