Social Marketing Training:
Moderated by Nanette O’Hara, TBEP
Presenter: Sara Isaac,
Marketing Strategist with Salter>Mitchell
Social marketing puts
commercial marketing theory and practice to work on behalf of the social
good. Whether the goal is to get people to use less fertilizer, eat more
healthy foods, or otherwise adopt new behaviors that have a positive
social outcome, social marketing reframes the behavior to make it
something people want to do.
Learn how Social
Marketing can help you cut through the marketing clutter to produce
meaningful, measurable education and outreach campaigns that change
behavior. This 3-hour training will be led by Sara Isaac, a program
strategist with Salter>Mitchell, one of the nation’s leading social
marketing firms. Sara will cover the basics of Social Marketing, present
successful case studies, and then put participants to work creating the
framework for a Social Marketing campaign addressing a priority issue in
their own watersheds.

in Punta Gorda, Florida.
This is an easy walk from either of the hotels listed below.
Hotels
Two new hotels are an easy walk from the center.
Sheraton Four Points will be our meeting hotel and the
Wyvern Hotel
is an alternate hotel. Both hotels are offering a special room rate of
$95/night for single or double occupancy for the ANEP meeting.
The
group name at the Sheraton is CHNEP. The group rate will be honored for
stays between November 3 and 15. The cutoff date to register with these
rates is November 4. Be sure to use the in-house reservation system. The
$95 rate includes a continental breakfast. If you plan on arriving
prior to November 8, please contact Joy Masters, the director of
sales and marketing (941/637-6770,
joy.masters@fourpointspuntagorda.com)
to receive the group rate for the duration of your stay.
The group name at the Wyvern is ANEP

eight rooms that have two beds so if you want two beds, either make
your reservation early or stay at the Sheraton.
We would like you to come early and stay

offering special room rates to ANEP. For those who spend more than two
nights in Lee County, the visitor and convention bureau will offset the
carbon footprint of travel to the area by donating funds to Go
ZeroSM. For more information, please visit the

Getting
to Know the NEPs
While in California,
Lisa Beever toured the Monterey Aquarium. Before a presentation, they
ran a powerpoint on a timer that “was just wonderful. It had all of the
audience engaged and family member competing with one another to answer
questions correctly.” We’d like to create a similar presentation to help
everyone who attends the ANEP meeting learn more our national estuary
programs and EPA. A sample PowerPoint is attached. Would you create
your own PowerPoint (using the
attached
as a template) that we’ll compile and run during breaks and at lunch
time during the ANEP meeting. Please be sure each slide you create
acknowledges your program as appropriate – logo, in the text or in the
answers. The automatic timing too fast, but we can modify that. Just
copy a slide and adjust the animation so that the final answer remaining
is the correct one. Please delete any CHNEP slides that remain so only
slides you are provided are saved in the presentation. Either email the
presentation to me (mhilgendorf@swfrpc.org)
by noon on November 5 or bring it with you.
Guidance to Presenters
Please create a
presentation to accompany your talk. The ANEP Fall 2010 meeting will be
broadcast live on the Internet, probably through WebEx. The only visual
image that will be shown are those in your presentation. We won’t be
using cameras during the meeting.
As soon as you can
after arriving in Punta Gorda, please give your presentation to one of
the following people.
- the tech track,
Judy Ott
- the admin track,
Liz Donley
- the outreach
track, Maran Hilgendorf
We are using borrowed
laptop computers. If at all possible, please use PowerPoint 2007 to
ensure that it will work on all computers used. If you will be using a
different version or different software, please let us know as soon as
possible so we can make any necessary accommodations.
Your presentation will
be shown in the meeting room and on the Internet. We will also convert
your presentation into a PDF file for posting on the Internet after the
meeting.
Please be aware that
some of the presentations will be shown in a room that’s 60’ wide by
110’ deep. This may mean it would be better to use larger type than you
normally use. One
example of a presentation that was easy to read is provided.
Most of you are experts
are preparing presentations but in case you’d like some guidance, the
presentation software provides guidance on how to prepare a presentation
and there are some wonderful resources available on the Internet.
Tips (Many of these
tips can be found at www.About.com.)
-
Make sure there is sharp contrast
between fonts and background.
-
Consistency makes for a better
presentation.
-
Use standard fonts. Sans serif fonts
are best for headings. Examples include Arial, Tahoma and
Verdana. Serif fonts are best to use if there is more text on
the slide. Examples include Times New Roman. Avoid script fonts.
These fonts are hard to read at the best of times.
-
Don’t use all capital letters.
-
Use italics sparingly
-
Make the fonts large for
readability. No text should be smaller than 24 point.
-
Use different fonts for headlines
and bullet points.
-
Only include graphics and tables
with readable font.
-
Avoid including tables of detailed
technical data in unreadable fonts. Instead include summary
tables or graphs.
Guidance for Participating via WebEx
If you aren't able to attend the ANEP
meeting, please consider participating via WebEx. There is no charge to
participate, the software is free from WebEx at
https://suncom.webex.com (or
www.WebEx.com) and you may join
the call even if you didn't complete the registration form on this page.
You do need a computer, access to the Internet and your phone. The first
time you use this service, please allow an additional 15 minutes to
download the free software from the WebEx website. For additional
guidance on WebEx, please visit their website.
You will only have access to the sessions
when they occur. (They won't be archived for later viewing but PDF files
of presentations will be posted on this website.) There may be up to
three concurrent WebEx sessions available at any time -- outreach, tech
and admin -- so be sure you are joining the session in which you wanted
to participate. We will start
each WebEx session 30 minutes before the start time listed in the agenda
and it will continue 15 minutes after the last session is scheduled to
end. Please refer to the
agendas for the meeting and for the
adaptive leadership training for more details on
topics, presenters and times.
